Warranty

Three layers of paper

Your estimate names the terms for each. Read them before you sign.

  • 01

    The shingle maker's warranty

Covers defects in the shingles themselves. The terms are the maker's, and coverage is usually reduced over time after an initial period.

  • 02

    The system warranty

Offered when the roof is built with the maker's matching parts by a contractor the maker has approved. It can extend the full-coverage period. Tier names and dates are on your estimate.

  • 03

    Our workmanship warranty

Covers installation errors for the term written in your contract. It doesn't cover storm, ice or impact damage, or damage by other trades.

Fine print

What "lifetime" means on a shingle

  • 01

    Whose life

For many makers, as long as the original owner owns the single-family house. It is not the life of the roof.

  • 02

    What it covers

Manufacturing defects in the shingles. Labor to replace them is often covered only for an initial period.

  • 03

    What it doesn't

Hail, ice dams, poor ventilation and damage from other trades. Check the maker's own page for what it excludes.

Questions

About the paperwork

What warranty do I get?

Two parts: the manufacturer's material warranty, and a workmanship warranty from us or, at the top tiers, from the manufacturer.

Can the warranty transfer if I sell?

Often once, and sometimes only within a set time after the sale. The maker's terms say how. We help you with the paperwork.

Who registers the warranty?

We do, after the final walk-through. You get the papers and the registration confirmation.
